Grease is the word

I saw Grease for the first time last Saturday. I know some of you watched the competition last year on NBC for the lead roles. Well the winners have moved on and my two favorite runners up (Ashlee and Derek) are now filling the parts of Danny and Sandy, so it seemed like a good time to see it.

We went to the matinee and Michelle was able to find us half price tickets just minutes before the show. We had to book it to the show, so we didn't look too closely at the tickets, so we were surprised when the usher lead us all the way down to the front row! and they don't have an orchestra pit (the band was behind the stage, up high), so the stage was literally right in front of us. it was great.

At the end of the intermission they announced that the part of Sandy will be played by Allie Schulz for the second act (we found out the next day from someone we knew in the cast that ahslee had pulled something during her cheerleading routine earlier in the performance). well if you're one of the ones that watched that competition, Allie was one of the other finalists. Apparently she's currently the understudy. she did pretty well, but i think i like ashlee better.

Oh, and if you're an american idol fan, taylor hicks was in it too. he did very well.

Overall it was pretty good. Terrible message though. It showed that they were both willing to change and compromise in order to be together, but in the end it seems Sandy just gives up her innocence and goodness and Danny just stays the way he was.
